Many expected Italian manager Carslo Ancelotti, last summer after winning both the Champions League and La Liga, to jump at the opportunity to take over Brazil’s national team.
Carlo Ancelotti is starting talks about leaving Real Madrid. Back in December 2023, it was confirmed that Ancelotti had signed a new contract that would keep him at the Bernabeu until the summer of 2026.

However, the Italian has previously been linked with a move away from the Spanish capital. On Wednesday afternoon, it was claimed that the 65-year-old has entered into talks about leaving Madrid.
As reported by Globo, Ancelotti has resumed talks about leaving Madrid to take up the role of manager of the Brazilian national team. On social media, they wrote: “The CBF (Brazilian FA) has already resumed contacts with the aim of having Carlo Ancelotti in charge of the national team at the 2026 World Cup.
“The Real coach was receptive to the contact, but warned that any progress would be contingent on waiting until the end of the Club World Cup.”
Spanish news agency Relevo also confirmed the news first reported by Globo and stated that the move will not come until this summer’s Club World Cup. Back in January 2024, Ancelotti admitted that he had talks with Brazil.
He said, “The reality is what everybody knows. I had contact with the [now former] president of the Brazilian federation, Ednaldo Rodrigues. I want to thank him for his affection and interest, it made me very proud, but what is clear to everyone is that it depends on my situation at Real Madrid. I’m grateful for the interest, but in the end it turned out as I wanted.”
Further expanding on his future, the Madrid boss said: “I will be very clear: I will never decide the date of my departure from this club in my life.
Meanwhile, Brazilian legend Ronaldo Nazario told the Charla Podcast (MARCA): “It wasn’t a fantasy because I helped in the process by talking to Carlo, but he wasn’t released. Real Madrid did not let him go.
“After negotiating, everything got stuck because he didn’t have Real Madrid’s release. If he hadn’t won anything, Real Madrid would have sacked him and Ancelotti would have come, but he won the Champions League and stayed for another year.”
On Tuesday night (Wednesday our time), Brazil were beaten 4-1 by bitter rivals Argentina, leaving them in fourth place in the South American qualification for the 2026 World Cup.
