Last summer, the Brazilian Football Federation worked intensely to persuade Carlo Ancelotti to lead Brazil again to the 2026 World Cup title. The Italian fox was not finished with the project at Real Madrid and chose the royal club. Contract expiration is in the future, but with still one year left as Real coach, Ancelotti had two weeks that have changed everything.

Real Madrid have struggled in La Liga this season, this with Real’s huge investment in Kylian Mbappe. Still, well into the title race in La Liga and the final against Barcelona in the Copa del Rey, Ancelotti shows he is still up to the task. For Real Madrid, this is not enough. The Champions League is Real Madrid’s tournament, the loss to the heavily disparaged Martin Ødegaard and Arsenal in two games was downright humiliating.

After exiting the Champions League, Ancelotti has been heavily rumored to be on his way away from the La Liga giant. Before Wednesday’s Getafe game, Ancelotti saw no reason to pop the question of whether he is finished.

“In football, anything can happen. I’m not surprised by anything lately, so anything can happen. I don’t hold a grudge against anyone or anything. I love being here. I loved my first time and I love this second time too. I hope it continues for as long as possible,” Ancelotti says humbly.

Who is mentally prepared for the fact that the one he delivers this season may be too thin. We love Ancelotti as a coach, but think it’s a bit amusing that it was Martin Ødegaard, the player Ancelotti twice underestimated as Real Madrid coach, who “led” Real Madrid out of the Champions League – and probably Ancleotti out of Real Madrid.

“If it ends one day, I will be grateful and I take my hat off to this club. Nothing else, the Italian fox concludes.
