Carlos Baleba has been linked with a move to Manchester United.
Carlos Baleba could end up breaking his own unwritten rule if he chooses to leave Brighton and Hove Albion for Manchester United.

On Wednesday, there was a huge bombshell when it was revealed that United had made contact with Brighton, via intermediaries, regarding the possibility of signing midfielder Baleba.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein wrote on social media:
“Man Utd have contacted Brighton via intermediaries to explore the terms of a deal for Carlos Baleba. #BHAFC have no plans to sell this summer, and all parties are aware that a transfer could be unrealistic. But #MUFC are interested and should know in the coming days whether it is possible or not.”
A new letter of intent from United
Signing Baleba would be another sign of intent from United, who have already struck a deal to bring RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Šeško to Old Trafford.
But for Baleba, it could mean that he is breaking his own rule if he chooses to leave “The Seagulls” for “The Red Devils”.
Over the years, players such as Moisés Caicedo, Alexis Mac Allister and João Pedro have been sold for large sums of money by Brighton.
When Baleba was asked in November 2024 to follow in their footsteps – to leave Brighton for so-called bigger clubs – he replied to Sky Sports:
“I don’t really think like that: to play for two or three years and then leave. I? I just work. In my head, it’s all about working and helping my club. If I can help a teammate, I will. If they can help me, I accept the help to move forward and develop. So I’m just working to help my team and myself, to develop for the future.”
Baleba added
, “In return, everyone who helps me wants me to reach the highest level. And if there are big clubs that want me, it’s not something that worries me or makes me excited. I just have to work hard and keep a cool head. I don’t know if I’m going to be the star or the next big name. For me, being the star is a bit much. That everyone talks about you, sings your name? It doesn’t give me anything. It doesn’t make me run fast. I prefer to keep my head down and work on the pitch.”
Impressed since arrival
Since joining the club in 2023, Baleba has impressed and attracted the attention of clubs such as Manchester United, Liverpool, and Manchester City.
