Rasmus Hojlund was brought to Manchester United as a young and freshman, this was evident in the match arena. Before the Dane was criticized for not taking advantage of the scoring chances he got, it was quite clear in the first season that he actually rarely got the ball from his teammates. United legend Dimitar Berbatov advised in November that his replacement Benjamin Sesko should not continue into this trap. Sesko’s stats and body language now show that Berbatov doesn’t need to worry. The 22-year-old has earned respect.

Here was the advice Berbatov gave Sesko through Rio Ferdiand’s youtube channel: “Have faith in yourself, and be arrogant in a way where you demand the ball from your teammates when you go on runs. When you make a good run and the ball doesn’t come, say it, or show it in a way that makes your teammate understand: “I’m here, I’m making the run for you, respect my run… I’m here, man, that’s why I’m here. Just give me the ball. Play for me. I’ll try to score for you!” Whether it’s at half-time, before or after the game – just talk!, Berbatov recommended four months ago.

With Michael Carrick as United coach, Sesko’s teammates have really opened their eyes to the young striker’s scoring potential. Three goals in five games, directly decisive for 5 of 16 points under Carrick.

This comes despite the fact that Sesko has not started in a single one of the games.

  • Arsenal (B)  – Nine minutes on the pitch, no goals
  • Fulham (H) – 16 minutes on the pitch, scored the decisive 3-2 goal
  • Tottenham (H) – 15 minutes on the pitch, no goals
  • West Ham (B) – 21 minutes on the pitch, made it 1-1 in injury time
  • Everton (B) – 32 minutes on the pitch, scored the decisive 1-0 goal

With this statistic, Sesko delivers scoring every 31 minutes with Carrick in charge. United legend Berbatov doesn’t have to worry about Sesko, the 22-year-old definitely doesn’t fall into the “Højlund trap”.
