21-year-old Patrick Dorgu has plenty to smile about. Plays for one of the world’s biggest clubs and rakes in £40,000 in weekly wages as a rookie. Still, the Danish international has apparently rarely let his smile loose under Ruben Amorim. When Michael Carrick points to the smile as perhaps the most important indicator that Dorgu is able to let loose in the match arena, then we get flashbacks to Solskjaer’s super-substitute substitution from December 2018. From a life with the grumpy Portuguese Mourinho, Solskjaer worked from day one to bring a smile to the players’ faces. When this comes, the shoulders are lowered and self-confidence is regained. That makes 14 wins in 19 games. Carrick has started the same race.
Now, we’re not going to compare Amorim to Mourinho, but there has been a fairly tense atmosphere in the Man Utd squad for most of Ruben Amorim’s time at Old Trafford. Carrick has led the Red Devils to strong victories over both City and Arsenal. In both games, Bryan Mbeumo has scored, as has the 21-year-old Dorgu.

And what a few goals by the Dane! Carrick praises Dorgu, while highlighting this important smile.
-He has been a big player for us the last couple of games. In several ways. Of course, because he has scored two goals, but he has also been a threat, athletic, shown quality and good contact with his teammates. Defensively, he has also been excellent when it comes to making a double mark on the wings. We’ve played to keep going, there were a lot of questions on the sides and he’s done a great job… It’s good to see him smile,” Carrick said after the game.
We also include Dorgu’s description after the City game of the stage from Amorim to Carrick.
“We have a new coach, and it has been very good for us. We have had very good training sessions with him, and everyone is positive. You could also see that from the first minute, how we came out to the game, and everything was ready,” Dorgu began to Viaplay.
The plan before the game was clear. All the players understood their task.
“It hasn’t really changed, but it’s just the intensity and the way he wants us to play. He just wants us to think ahead all the time, and you could see that here,” Dorgu continues.
Intensity and offensive mentality.
“It’s not about changes, but about the mentality as a group,” says Dorgu.
Mentality.
And then comes the smile, low shoulders – and the best use of the potential.
