Como manager and Chelsea legend Cesc Fàbregas clearly has little sympathy for his former Chelsea teammate. He has even hinted that one of his players ‘should play another sport’ after the star’s red card.

Como lost at home to Fiorentina, who emerged victorious 2-1 in Saturday’s Serie A clash at home at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia

Nicolo Fagioli opened the scoring for the visitors before Moise Keane doubled their lead from the penalty spot. The home side reduced the deficit when Fabiano Parisi scored an own goal. Como ended the game with ten men after Álvaro Morata was sent off in the last minute of regulation time.

Morata, who joined Como on a season-long loan from AC Milan in the summer, picked up two yellow cards within a minute of coming on as a second-half substitute.

The striker received his first yellow card after an off-ball confrontation with Luca Ranieri. Then it seemed to talk its way into a second yellow card and was then shown the red card by referee Matteo Marchetti.

Morata’s childish demeanor angered Fàbregas, and he had little sympathy for his compatriot and former Chelsea teammate.

Fàbregas said the 33-year-old ‘should play a different sport’ if he can’t live with provocations in football.

“Provocation is part of football, those who can’t live with it should play another sport,” he told DAZN.

“I expect a lot more from an experienced player like him. However, we can’t make excuses, and we can’t allow what other people do on the pitch to affect us.”

Morata has had a tough time in Italy’s top division, as he has yet to score a league goal for Como in 15 appearances.

It is Como’s second league game in a row without a win. On the team’s defeat, Fàbregas added: “I’m annoyed that I wasn’t able to help the boys understand the importance of the game.

“I showed them my experience as a footballer during the week, maybe too much, but it wasn’t enough. We are a young team.

“It wasn’t a football game in the second half. That aside, the battle must be won with the right motivation and energy.

“I feel bad as a coach, because I wasn’t able to convey this to my players today. Maybe it was in our heads. We made a mistake in our attitude, we need to show more will.

“I didn’t like the first half very much, the second half, I repeat, was not a football game.”
