Former Liverpool player Raheem Sterling was one of Pep Guardiola’s big stars. A given in the England national team, the lightning winger had built a career that seemed to continue in the same direction. Then came the fall. Moving to Chelsea in 2022 without success, loaning to Mikel Arteta and Arsenal last season without coming close to convincing with his former City coach. When Enzo Maresca is about to lead Chelsea to the game and is asked about Sterling, the Chelsea coach doesn’t quite understand the question. Sterling. Who?l

The 30-year-old has been placed in the so-called “bombsquad”, or status as undesirable in the first-team squad and ready to be dumped. Maresca answers questions about Sterling (and Axel Disasi) before this weekend’s game.

“They are Chelsea players, but at the moment they are training separately and the plan is to continue like this. Since the season started, I haven’t seen any of them. I haven’t seen Axel or Raheem. They train at a different time and on a different pitch. I haven’t seen them since the start of the season,” Enzo Maresca said according to BBC Sport.

Haven’t seen Sterling since August.

Sterling, the player who trains on a different pitch than the Chelsea players, is collecting £325,000 in weekly wages until 2027, according to the BBC. Welcome to the crazy world of football.
