We have all thought that the Swedish goal machine Viktor Gyökeres would follow his manager Ruben Amorim to Old Trafford after the success they had together at Sporting.

Viktor Gyökeres seems to have taken a massive step towards a move to Chelsea after one of the front figures for his signature ruled himself out of the race.

Both Viktor Gyökeres and Alexander Isak will not get the club of their dreams!

Gyökeres is expected to be one of the best strikers on the market this summer. Sporting Lisbon are reportedly ready to sell their prolific shooter for around €70 million.

Chelsea have recently increased their interest in the Swede.

However, Gyökeres is believed to prefer a move to a Champions League club, and this actually rules out Manchester United, while Arsenal are also believed to prioritise a younger player such as Alexander Isak or Benjamin Sesko.

And Chelsea can now have a free run on Gyökeres after Barcelona became the latest club to give up the race for the 26-year-old, according to Spanish outlet SPORT.

The La Liga giants will reportedly activate a one-year option in Robert Lewandowski’s contract and continue with the Polish veteran as their number nine next season, with resources instead used to sign a winger instead of another striker.

Gyokeres and Isak the ‘biggest losers’ in the Barca decision Barca’s
desire to exercise its option in Lewandowski’s contract is somewhat surprising due to the fight against La Liga’s salary caps.

However, Lewandowski has still shown no signs of slowing down despite his age, with the former Bayern Munich star scoring 20 times in 24 La Liga games this season.

Both Hansi Flick and Barca’s board are said to have been keen to give a gesture of confidence to Lewandowski and have therefore activated their expansion even before it was necessary to do so.

The report claims that Barca’s decision leaves Gyökeres and Isak as “the biggest losers” as the Catalans will now be unable to afford either player despite both being “offered” to the club.

Barca will also have the option to extend Lewandowski’s contract until 2027, meaning they will avoid looking for a new striker and continue with Ferran Torres and Dani Olmo as backup options.
