“Blues” make progress in the hunt for Jamie Gittens
Chelsea have reportedly made progress in their bid to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens. – Gittens has spent the last five years at Dortmund after leaving Manchester City and joining the club’s academy system in September 2020.
Jamie Gittens, along with Jadon Sancho, was an important part of the German giants’ path to the Champions League final two years ago, where they eventually lost to Real Madrid. – The two teammates have since had a diametrically different development. For Gittens, the arrows are pointing upwards, while they are pointing steeply downwards for Sancho.

Gittens has scored 17 goals and provided 14 assists in 107 appearances for Dortmund, including 12 goals and five assists in 49 official games last season. Gittens apparently did enough during the 2024/25 season to catch the attention of Chelsea’s recruitment team.
Chelsea close in on Gittens deal
“The Blues” tried to sign the 20-year-old before the Club World Cup, but were unable to agree a transfer fee with Dortmund.
As a result, he is currently with the Dortmund squad in the tournament in the United States, rather than with Chelsea who were the desire of manager Enzo Maresca.
Although Chelsea were unable to sign him for the Club World Cup, it looks like they are on track to sign him before the Premier League season kicks off in August. According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Chelsea are close to an agreement with Dortmund on a transfer for Gittens.
Reports claim that the two clubs are in “close talks” about the structure of the transfer, while Gittens is waiting for the go-ahead to undergo a medical test.
The player will sign a seven-year contract once the transfer is complete and the medical examination is completed.
Why is Chelsea interested in Gittens?
Chelsea are keen to sign a new winger after deciding not to sign Jadon Sancho on a permanent deal.
“The Blues” chose to pay a fine of £5 million to get out of the obligation to buy, ensuring that Sancho remains a Manchester United player.
Chelsea are also expected to sell Raheem Sterling after his loan spell at Arsenal, while Mykhaylo Mudryk has been temporarily suspended after testing positive on a doping test in December.

As a result, Maresca only has Pedro Neto, Noni Madueke, and Tyrique George as his primary options on the wings.
Gittens will give Maresca an extra option in the position before Chelsea return to the Champions League next season.
