Kepa. Mendy. Sanchez. Wearing the Chelsea goalkeeper’s shirt is no easy task. Since Thibaut Courtois left Stamford Bridge in 2018, the London club has not had a goalkeeper that defenders trust blindly. Sanchez is the last in line, on Thursday came the confirmation that he too will disappear at the back of the playing time queue.
At Friday’s press conference before the Brighton game, Maresca was asked about the goalkeeper cabal. After another few blunders from Robert Sanchez, the Chelsea manager is now going from giving full confidence in his first goalkeeper to demoting the Spaniard.
“I’ve said that we chose Filip (Jørgensen) to give Robert (Sanchez) some time to recover mentally and physically. But the idea is not to change goalkeepers from game to game, Maresca begins.
Then comes the shift.
“In the last Premier League game, Filip was on, and in the FA Cup, Robert was on. Right now, our first goalkeeper is Filip,” Maresca said according to Football-London.
