According to reports, Chelsea are willing to pay over the odds in a player-cash deal to bring Marc Guehi back.
The Blues are on the hunt for a new centre-back this summer. Despite several defensive signings in recent years, the club is still not happy with the situation in defence.
Wesley Fofana (bought for €80 million) has struggled with injuries, Benoit Badiashile has not established himself as a permanent fixture, Aaron Anselmino is too inexperienced for the Premier League, and Trevoh Chalobah was already asked to leave the club last summer – before he was brought back in January.

The expectation is that Chalobah will once again leave Stamford Bridge this summer. He impressed greatly on loan at Crystal Palace this autumn and the club is open to a return. This suits Chelsea well, as they themselves want to bring back a Palace player.
Chelsea will pay a premium for Guehi
According to The Mirror, Chelsea are preparing a swap deal in which Chalobah is included along with a significant amount of money for Guehi.
Since Guehi is a regular international for England and one of the Premier League’s best defenders, Palace value him at a whopping €81 million. Chelsea, on the other hand, believe that Chalobah is worth €35 million.
It is claimed that Chelsea are willing to bid up to €58 million for Guehi, which would reportedly suit Palace well. The club has “accepted” that they lose Guehi, as he only has one year left on his contract and does not want to extend.
Thus, Chelsea could end up paying €93 million for a player they sold for just €23 million in 2021. The West London club did not include a buy-back clause when he left the club – something that is now coming back and biting them.
