Chelsea’s have done it before, and now they’ve done it again. When Todd Boehly and the gang only had to sign Enzo Fernandez in January 2023, Chelsea weighed up €121 million to meet Benfica’s buyout clause. This made the Argentine the most expensive player in Premier League history. The London club is doing the same on the women’s side, this time with a new world record.
When Bay FC in the United States signed Racheal Kunanaji from Madrid CFFF, it was a new world record of around 680,000 pounds. According to BBC Sport, Chelsea are now paying £900,000 for the signature of Naomi Girma from the San Diego Wave.
There is great enthusiasm at Chelsea after paying for the world’s most expensive player.
“Naomi is a world-class defender who is now entering the best years of her career. Naomi has shown her talent in the NWSL, where she has won various individual awards, and she has delivered on the international stage for the United States, where she won the gold medal in the Olympics this summer. She is undoubtedly ready for the next step in her career, and we are happy that it will be at Chelsea,” says Paul Green, head of women’s football at Chelsea.
Congratulations!
