For many years, Chelsea have struggled to find stability in the goalkeeper position, and this summer they will spend large sums of money to strengthen it again. No one has quite managed to fill the void left by Thibaut Courtois who left in the summer of 2028.

We can mention goalkeepers such as Kepa Arrizabalaga who joined Chelsea for €80 million and Edouard Mendy who cost €24 million who were very promising when they came to Stamford Bridge.

In an unexpected twist, Chelsea could reconsider their plans for the upcoming transfer window and make a bid for Mike Maignan, AC Milan’s current goalkeeper. Although they originally had no plans to strengthen the goalkeeper position, interest in the France international has gained momentum in recent hours, as journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

The London side had not planned to include a new goalkeeper in their strategy, but the player’s contract situation has opened a door that Stamford Bridge are willing to explore. Maignan, who is considered one of Europe’s best goalkeepers today, has yet to reach an agreement to extend his contract with the Rossoneri, creating uncertainty about his mid-term future.

Maignan’s future at Milan uncertain
The Frenchman has been a key player for Milan since arriving from Lille, and has distinguished himself with his security between the sticks, footwork and leadership skills in crucial moments. His performances have attracted interest from several top clubs on the continent, and Chelsea seem willing to take advantage of the situation to try and persuade him into a new ambitious project in the Premier League.

We will have to keep a close eye on the English club’s next move, as they could make an unexpected entry if they eventually decide to go after Maignan. His arrival will significantly increase the competition for the goalkeeper position at the Blues.

Mike Maignan, who has a year left on his deal, is according to Transfermarkt worth 25 million euros, down from 40 million euros at the top.
