Maresca will strengthen the squad
Enzo Maresca wants to reinforce every part of the pitch to build a squad that can fight for trophies. The Blues are fighting for Champions League qualification and will need a stronger squad to compete at the top.
Chelsea have great faith in Dortmund star Gittens and see the talented 20-year-old as a future world-class player who is ready for a big breakthrough.
Sources claim that Chelsea consider Gittens a realistic signing. Dortmund value him at £35 million, which Chelsea believe is a fair price.
Gittens’ background – from Chelsea to Dortmund
The London-born winger started his career at Reading before being brought to Chelsea’s youth academy as a youngster. However, he left the club early and ended up at Manchester City, where he developed. Just like Liam Delap and Cole Palmer, he was considered a negotiable player by City, and Dortmund signed him in the summer of 2022.
Gittens has impressed in Germany with 12 goals and five assists across all competitions this season, so it’s no surprise that Chelsea want to bring him back.
Dortmund are open to talks about Gittens with Chelsea and they see the problem of Jadon Sancho as an advantage.
Chelsea have been following Gittens closely over the past year, and all indications are that he will leave Dortmund this summer.
Gittens is represented by The Elite Project Group, which also has Chelsea players such as Romeo Lavia and Tyrique George on the list – as well as Jadon Sancho.
This opens up an interesting scenario: Could Chelsea use Sancho as part of a deal to secure Gittens? Chelsea have an obligation to sign the Manchester United loanee permanently for £25 million, unless they pay £5 million to withdraw from the deal.
Dortmund are interested in Sancho, and Chelsea have considered signing the England international with the sole purpose of using him in a swap deal for Gittens.
Regardless of whether Sancho signing happens or not, Gittens remains a top target for Chelsea.
