While many have been waiting for Zinckernagel to bring the rest of the move and re-establish himself in Bodø, the big city of Chicago has been working to bring the Dane to MLS. On Monday, the confirmation came that – for us – Zinckenagel signed, but for the “wrong club”. For Chicago Fire FC coach Gregg Berhalter, the Dane is perfect for the team and American turf.
The former U.S. national team coach welcomes Zinckernagel with high expectations. The Dane has done his business as a football nomad at Watford, Nottingham Forest, (we’ll skip guest appearances at chaos club Olympiakos), Standard Liege and Club Brugge, but it was the showcase at Kjetil Knutsen and Bodø/Glimt on loan from Bruges in 2024 that made the Americans buy.
Chicago Fire FC coach Berhalter gives the supporters a description of why the former Bodø/Glimt player is the right man in Chicago.
“He is a technical and versatile player who can create chances for himself and his teammates, while also showing a dedication to the defensive work,” Berhalter begins to the club’s website.
“With his experience, he will bring a winning mentality and leadership to our team in the coming season and beyond,” the Chicago Fire coach boasts.
