In recent days, after it was over for Danish Christian Eriksen at Manchester United, he has been training with his old club Malmö FF without there being any talk of him becoming part of their team.

The 33-year-old has surprisingly signed with Wolfsburg, who have not been on anyone’s radar as the next stop.

“I’m looking forward to this adventure,” says the midfielder on Wolfsburg’s website.

It was not the reigning Swedish champion. Neither has Bayer Leverkusen, who have just signed his old national team manager Kasper Hjulmand as their new manager. – When he got on the plane in the direction of Germany, everyone expected to land in Leverkusen.

Eriksen has been presented by Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, and he has signed a two-year contract, until the summer of 2027.

“We are very happy that this opportunity arose at short notice. With Christian Eriksen, we get a player who has seen and experienced everything at the highest level, says sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz in a statement.

Wolfsburg is a bit of a “Danish colony”. Their football manager is Peter Christiansen (formerly at FCK), and the squad includes Jesper Lindstrøm, Andreas Skov Olsen, Jonas Wind, Adam Daghim and Joakim Mæhle.

“I’m really looking forward to this new adventure. I am convinced that together we can make a difference in Wolfsburg. The discussions with the management have been very good. I immediately felt that Paul Simonis (coach) had a clear idea for the team and for me. The fact that there are many well-known faces from the Danish national team in the team makes VfL extra attractive to me,” Eriksen said in a statement.
