Alexander Isak is seen as a “football traitor” by Newcastle supporters, who are pushing for an exit the club has refused. The Swede himself sees it as a breach of an agreement, when Newcastle now stop Liverpool transfer. The Newcastle management denies that this is true. There we are, already in the Premier League season. The Premier League’s second-highest scoring player last season is doing self-training, while Newcastle and Liverpool are aiming for the best possible start to the season. Eddie Howe set aside a few minutes to answer the questions he knew were impossible to avoid about Isak.

“Alex and I had conversations towards the end of the season. Yes, I’m not going to sit here and deny it. Yes, we had discussions about his future,” Howe said at a press conference.

“I haven’t seen him this week. I saw him last week. When I see him, we talk to each other as normal. There are no problems between us. It is a difficult situation for both parties. It is far from ideal for any of them. Alex trains later and separately from the group. We’ll talk at some point,” Howe continues.

Before the Newcastle manager clarifies:

“Before Alex can play for Newcastle again, he has to be fully committed. It’s not going to work any other way,” Howe concludes.
