The 2023/24 season – while Manchester United still remained inside the top ten in the Premier League – there was one teenager who played his way to the biggest, positive headlines. “Out of nowhere” came Kobbie Mainoo and took advantage of her minutes in the match arena on the senior team from the first game. A head-shaking Gary Neville and Paul Scholes had hardly seen anything like it from a teenager in midfield, a kid who played like a veteran and stood out as Man United’s best player in several games. Then came last season with the “big fall” and link to exit.
Mainoo ended their breakthrough season with a fantastic FA Cup final and in the starting eleven for England in the European Championship final. The teenager was hailed as one of England’s greatest midfield talents, but failed to follow up last season.

Injuries, lack of form, Ruben Amorims football from November and not close to delivering as the season before, Mainoo rumoured on his way to Chelsea in January. There was no sale of the “Manchester United DNA” player.
We think Ruben Amorim is good for Mainoo’s development as a player. From stardom under Ten Hag, Amorim has taken away the “cushion of rest”. Kobbie Mainoo will have to continue to develop in order to wear the United shirt.
” I think he can play in both positions in midfield. Last season he was more up front, but his perfect position is close to the ball, always with the ball,” Amorim said at the press conference before the friendly against West Ham on Sunday night Scandinavian time.
Amorim has given the 20-year-old two areas he must and will improve.
” I think he’s a great talent, and you know it even better than I do. However, he needs to get up the rhythm and pace. I always nag him about that, because he’s so good sometimes, but at the same time he can get better,” says the United manager.
Kobbie Mainoo got a wake-up call last season. Now Ruben Amorim will guide the England midfielder in the right direction, this time without a VIP card.
