It was only after 80 minutes that Coventry, at home at The Coventry Building Society Arena, secured the win against Derby and with it three more points in their storm back to the Premier League.

Frank Lampard, who was one of the best players of his generation, has, until now, had yet to impress as a manager.

On Friday, the team secured another win against Derby (3-2).
“We have to be able to enjoy the win,” goalscorer Frank Onyeka told Sky Sports.

Frank Lampard’s Coventry have impressed throughout the season and are now storming towards promotion to the Premier League. On Friday night, Coventry faced Derby County at home and eventually won 3-2 in the Championship.

Frank Onyeka scored the first goal of the game, while Jack Rudoni scored twice, with the second goal being decisive after 80 minutes of play.

“It was a good win for us and we’re just continuing on the same track,” goalscorer Frank Onyeka told Sky Sports.

“Of course we have to be able to enjoy it. It was an important victory for the club, the team and the players. We have to be able to enjoy the victory.

Coventry now top the league table with eleven points down to Millwall in second place after 40 games played. Kim Hellberg’s Middlesbrough are in third place with twelve points up on Coventry. With six games remaining in the season, Lampard’s team will have to collapse completely to avoid securing one of the direct places in the English top flight.

Manager Frank Lampard was of course very pleased.
“I loved it” – Coventry reaction
Coventry boss Frank Lampard told BBC Radio CWR:

“It was hard deserved and well deserved. I felt it was a big test for us, against a good team in good form, playoff form, who are fighting for what we are fighting for.

“I’m delighted with the guys, they handled the game ahead of them and yes, it’s a big win.”

On two-goal hero Jack Rudoni: “I said, ‘Are you ready for half an hour?’ and he said, ‘I’m ready for more than that.’

“The most important thing is not only his talent, but his hunger to come in and do things with his team. The first goal was incredible, and then the second goal is a clinical finish. I loved it.”

Coventry is a classic club in England, but the team has not been part of the Premier League since 2001, when it was relegated after 34 years at the top level.
