Ronaldo, who was full of emotion after winning the Nations League with Portugal, made the groundbreaking move to the Middle East on January 1, 2023 – when he signed a two-and-a-half-year contract after his second spell at Manchester United ended in a mutual termination.

The transfer came as a huge surprise and put the world on alert, leading to a number of other high-profile players following suit.

The contract Ronaldo signed made him the highest-paid footballer in the world, with a reported annual salary of £177 million (€200 million) in Riyadh.

As captain from the start, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has continued his impressive goalscoring in a league that plays at corporate football level – with 99 goals in 111 appearances for Al Nassr, taking his incredible club stats to 800 goals in total.

How much has Cristiano Ronaldo earned at Al Nassr?

Ronaldo, who earns about £3.4 million a week, has amassed a fortune since signing for Al Nassr.

In his first two years, he received £354 million, and in 2025 he has earned a further £68 million. This brings his total earnings from Al Nassr to nearly £422 million – in addition to his significant revenue from sponsorship deals and marketing.

Ronaldo’s contract with Al Nassr was supposed to expire at the end of the month, and the 40-year-old hinted at a possible departure with a cryptic Instagram post in which he wrote “this chapter is over” after a defeat in the last game of the season.

His future dominated the news, and he was heavily linked with an unprecedented deal that would have seen him participate in the Club World Cup in the United States.

Al Hilal, the only Saudi club in the tournament, made an offer together with an unnamed Brazilian club. Ronaldo recently admitted that “some teams got in touch” but confirmed that he will not participate.

What has Ronaldo said about his future?

On Sunday, after captaining Portugal to a third title when they beat Spain on penalties (2-2 after full-time) at the Allianz Arena, Ronaldo clarified his situation.

In post-match interviews, in which he scored himself, he said:
“The future? Nothing changes. Al Nassr? Yes.”

Ronaldo has been in talks with Al Nassr over a new contract, and although it was claimed that the pace of talks was slowing, his latest statements suggest that he will continue at Al Awwal Park and aim to finally win trophies in Saudi Arabia.

According to reports, the new deal will involve a salary reduction of approximately £10 million compared to his current salary.
