When Carlo Ancelotti took over as manager of Brazil a few weeks ago, there were clear signals that his son Davide Ancelotti, who for over ten years has been his assistant at a number of clubs, would stand on his own two feet. Rangers was a potential destination for Davide, but when it went down the drain, he still followed his father to Brazil.

Carlo Ancelotti has managed clubs such as Real Madrid, Everton, Napoli and Bayern Munich all with Davide Ancelotti as his right-hand man. David Ancelotti has signed for Botafogo, which is 90% owned by Crystal Palace co-owner John Textor.

Brazilian Botafogo quickly put the spotlight on the current assistant coach of the Brazilian national team to take over after Renato Paiva’s departure.

Carlo Ancelotti’s son, who chose to follow his father in this new phase as Brazil national team coach, has already been present in the team’s first two games: a draw against Ecuador and a win over Paraguay, but there will be no more, at least not on the bench.

An exciting challenge for Davide

Botafogo’s interest is not accidental. After an impressive performance in the Club World Cup, where they beat PSG in the group stage, expectations were high. However, subsequent defeats to Palmeiras left a bitter taste with the management, who did not hesitate to sack Paiva.

With the Brazilian league eighth soon underway and the Copa Libertadores’ round of 16 just around the corner, the club urgently needs a new manager.

A risky but ambitious venture

Hiring Davide is a risky but ambitious decision. It will be his first experience as a manager, although his training under one of the world’s most decorated managers gives him credibility.

The challenge is significant: to rebuild a team that has lost key players like Igor Jesus (now at Nottingham Forest), while maintaining competitiveness on all fronts.
