There have been a few years that have not been so good for Dele Alli, who at one point was counted among the really great English players.
The 28-year-old has been without a club since his Everton contract expired at the end of the 2023/24 season. However, the club allowed the former Tottenham player to use their facilities at the Finch Farm training ground during his rehabilitation from injury.
Will be a natural choice for England ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
The attacking midfielder suffered several injuries during his two-year tenure at Goodison Park.
The latest in a series of setbacks came in October this year when Sean Dyche revealed that Dele had suffered a muscle injury, which prevented him from training with the squad.
The former Englishman has finally told fans what the next stage of his career could look like and was keen to thank Everton for the “support” they have given him.
“As widely published this week, 2025 could set me on a new path with some exciting opportunities,”
“Before any of that happens, it is very important for me to make it clear how grateful I am to all the fans, staff and players at Everton FC for the support they have given me.
“It’s been an incredibly tough journey trying to put the final pieces together to regain match fitness, and I can’t thank the Everton staff enough for the hard work they’ve put into this process.
“Unfortunately, things haven’t worked out the way we had all hoped, and I think it’s the right time for me to turn a new page. I want to wish everyone at this fantastic club the best of luck and hopefully see you again soon.”
The player has been linked with a potential move to Serie A club Como, which is led by former Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
According to Football Italia, it has been suggested that Dele will start training with the Italian club on December 26. He was seen in the stands at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia during the club’s 2-0 win against Roma last Sunday.
Earlier this year, the 28-year-old revealed how he still has ambitions to take the England squad to the 2026 World Cup.
“You know you can set reminders on your phone, I have a reminder at 11am every day that says ‘2026 World Cup’,” he said when speaking to Jamie Carragher and Dave Jones on Sky Sports’ MNF in April.
“That’s my goal for now. I think people will say ‘he hasn’t played in a year’, but I don’t care, I know my level.”
