Scott McTominay has reportedly made the Ballon d’Or nomination list after his first season with Serie A champions Napoli.
McTominay, 28, left his childhood club Manchester United in a surprise move to Napoli last summer.
The Scot signed a four-year contract with the Italian champions and has since thrived at Napoli.
McTominay contributed 13 goals and six assists in 39 appearances in the 2024/25 season, helping Antonio Conte’s side to only their fourth league title in the club’s history.
The 28-year-old midfielder also won the Serie Player of the Year award and has quickly become a cult hero in the Campania region.
Speaking to talkSPORT last month, McTominay described the club’s supporters as “special”.
“The love and support they give to the whole team, not just individual players, is very special,” McTominay said.
“It’s fantastic. The people are incredibly passionate, and they drive us forward in every single game.”
“They’re probably some of the best spectators I’ve ever played for. Because in every game we play, they are completely absorbed in supporting the team and helping. It’s incredible.”
And now the midfielder could soon be in contention for football’s most prestigious individual award, the Ballon d’Or.
PSG’s Ousmane Dembélé is currently the favourite to win the award after impressive performances during the club’s treble season, which saw them win Ligue 1, Champions League and Coupe de France.
A total of 30 players are nominated for the award each year, and according to reports, McTominay could be one of them.
According to journalist Sam C: “I understand that Scott McTominay has been nominated for the 2025 Ballon d’Or.”
The official list will be announced on 7 August, and a voting committee will decide who they think deserves to win this year’s prize, which will be awarded at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris on 22 September.
Only one Scottish player, Manchester United legend Denis Law in 1964, has won the prestigious award.
