Mauricio Pochettino is the favourite to return to North London this summer for Tottenham’s return, but the former Spurs success coach is busy leading the United States to success in the World Cup on home soil. With this, Pochettino will be available for Tottenham towards August at the earliest. On Monday, Thomas Frank suffered another Premier League defeat in the Premier League, five points above the relegation line giving Tottenham anything but peace of mind until August. On Wednesday night, another coach, also heavily linked to Tottenham, became available on the market. Here, things can happen quickly.
Roberto de Zerbi took over the reins at Brighton from Graham Potter in 2022. Brighton supporters didn’t think it would be possible to match Potter’s success. De Zerbi lifted Brighton even higher. It went so far that Jürgen Klopp said he could hardly believe it was possible to perform at this level, after the big clubs had drained Brighton of the best players. De Zerbi was heavily linked with the biggest coaching jobs on the market in 2024, but opted for Marseille and Ligue 1. There has been partial success here – right up until the club crashed out of the Champions League (and lost 0-5 to PSG). On Wednesday night, De Zerbi became available on the market.

In a press release posted in the middle of the night, Marseille reports that the club and De Zebi are ending the contract after mutual agreement, as it is so beautifully called, “a difficult decision for all parties”.
De Zerbi has been linked to the Manchester United job in recent years, so the level of activity at Old Trafford probably rose after the night’s development, but if we are to follow the betting industry experts, De Zerbi is right behind Pochettino to take over the Tottenham job from Thomas Frank.
The Italian was of interest to Spurs in 2023 before Ange Postecoglou was hired, but reportedly disappointed then-chairman Daniel Levy during the interview process. Now Levy is history, Tottenham are fighting for survival in the Premier League with Frank at the helm – and De Zerbi is theoretically ready to jump in to save the Premier League season.

Thomas Frank stated that he had talked to the owners and had confidence, but here a lot can happen, very quickly.
Bet on Frank and wait for Pochettino, or change quickly with De Zerbi in already this season and close the door on Pochettino’s return. Talk about a dilemma!
