According to the Telegraph, Newcastle United are nearing a decision on whether to renovate the classic football stadium, or whether it will be a new building.

If the latter is the option, the arena will likely be located near St James’ Park with a capacity of around 68,000 spectators. The current venue for “The Magpies” can accommodate just over 52,000 spectators. The cost exceeds £1 billion. It will take around three years to erect it from the time the detailed plan is adopted.

Money is not a problem as Newcastle is owned by Saudi Arabia’s state PIF fund.

At the same time, Newcastle United wants the surrounding area to be renovated, and according to the Telegraph, talks are underway with the government to partly finance infrastructure projects. Newcastle is also expected to take a large part of the cost if there is talk of modernization around St. James’ Park.
