Joao Gomes is the midfielder who, along with Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleba, are all on United’s list of candidates to lift the midfield and replace Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes (when the day comes). According to Globo Esporte , Manchester United are well on their way to kick-starting midfield purchases.

The Brazilian newspaper claims United and Wolverhampton have come a long way in negotiations over Joao Gomes, with the 24-year-old likely to join United in January, with a deal set to finalise by the end of 2025, with the central midfielder, one of the few bright spots at Wolverhampton this season, donning the £44m United red shirt.

Former Flamengo player Gomes masters the role centrally as well as defensively in midfield, a good starting point for Ruben Amorim. With 10 caps for Brazil, this is a player who is on the rise, while in 53 Premier League games he has shown he can keep pace, intensity and punch in the world’s toughest league.
