The Serie A match between Fiorentina and Inter has been interrupted following a medical emergency for Viola midfielder Edoardo Bove.

Fiorentina midfielder Eduardo Bove lost consciousness during the 17th minute of Serie A match against Inter at the Artemio Franchi Stadium. Fortunately, he has since regained consciousness.

According to Sky Sport Italia, Bove was bending down tying his laces when he suddenly collapsed.

There was a panicked reaction from his teammates and the Inter players, who quickly rushed the medical staff over.

Fiorentina and Inter players were in tears as they waited for news, then were asked to leave the field and go back to the dressing rooms. The Italy Under-21 international was rushed to hospital by ambulance.

According to La Repubblica, Bove no longer requires intubation and is now alert. His first words upon regaining consciousness were, “Thank you all.”

Fiorentina’s official statement confirmed that Bove remains in the intensive care unit.

La Repubblica are now among those to report that Bove has suffered “no brain or heart damage” after losing consciousness. When sharing a positive update on Bove’s condition, Fabrizio Romano reports that “the night went well and Fiorentina’s player was extubated [taken off ventilation] — after almost 13 hours”.

Bove is said to be “awake, conscious as he answers questions” and breathing again without the aid of artificial ventilation. La Repubblica reports that his first words were “thank you all”, with well wishes and messages of support having flooded in from across the wider footballing community.

The match was canceled and will be rescheduled for a later date. According to Serie A regulations, the game will resume from the point where it was stopped, starting from the 18th minute with a 0-0 score.
