This summer, Barcelona, in front of several Premier League clubs, persuaded Dani Olmo to return to his youth club. The La Liga giant has financial challenges like few others in the world of football, yet the club signed Olmo from RB Leipzig for 55 million euros. This was the easy part, it turns out now.
Barcelona were only allowed to register Olmo as a Barca player for the first six months of the season, with too high salary expenses in relation to income. The European Championship star has a clause in his contract, where he can leave the club as a free agent on January 1 if he is not registered further.
According to Mundo Deportivo , Barcelona have tried to register Olmo since Ter Stegen is out on long-term injury, but this has been rejected in court. The Spanish media reports Barcelona now have until December 31 to find a solution, otherwise Olmo can leave the club on January 1 as a free agent.
Liverpool have been linked with Olmo, but according to The Times, it is the Premier League trio of Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal who are following the process most closely, with Barcelona struggling to put in place the income to be able to register the Spanish international before the New Year’s fireworks are fired.
According to Relevo, Barcelona have now sold the VIP boxes and submitted documentation of the extra income, with the hope that this is enough to be able to register Dani Olmo and not lose the star for free to the “vultures” in the Premier League. According to the Spanish newspaper, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has realized the sale of the VIP boxes for 100 million euros from a hotel room in Dubai.
O’hoi, so it goes.
