Jesse Lingard fell out of shape after having to take care of his family while playing for Manchester United. -The attacking midfielder who has risen through the ranks at Old Trafford became what is nicely called a “cool hero”, some very inspired moments as the first to spontaneous singing in the stands and the opposite when things were at their worst.

Now he wants to return to Europe, something that Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke believes could happen at Wrexham. Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have had Premier League ambitions since they took over the club in 2021.

Wrexham, who have achieved three consecutive promotions, are in the midst of their final promotion run as they aim for the Premier League.

They are currently one point behind sixth-placed Watford in the Championship table, having won four league games in a row.

Yorke, who inspired Sunderland to promotion from the Championship to the Premier League in the 2006/07 season, believes Jesse Lingard could sign for Wrexham to bolster their promotion chase. Lingard is clubless after he jointly ended his contract with South Korean club FC Seoul last month.

The 33-year-old has experience in the Championship after his loan spells at Leicester City, Birmingham City, Brighton and Derby County.

Yorke believes that a move to Wrexham would serve as the “last rodeo” of Lingard’s career.

“Jesse is an interesting character. I have always kept an eye on him because of the United connection. I don’t really know what his priority is right now, but obviously he still wants to play football, and at Championship level there is no doubt that he would be an asset,” he told Sportbible.

“Whether he wants to return to England, is enjoying life abroad or is looking for one last lucrative deal in a league like Saudi Arabia – a top-seven team there would certainly take a chance on him. He has name attraction and has done reasonably well in South Korea.”

The former Man United star added: “But if he were to go to Wrexham, that wouldn’t be surprising either. Maybe he feels it’s time to come home to be closer to his daughter and help Wrexham get promoted to the Premier League.”

“It could be one last rodeo for him, and I’ve experienced firsthand the benefits of joining a Championship team. I did it at Sunderland when they were 23rd and we were promoted as league champions.”

“It’s possible, and it’s a way to get Jesse back to a level I’m sure he’s longing for. I would definitely consider it. Wrexham is a very ambitious team with wealthy owners, they are making good progress and are in mid-table in the Championship.”

“We know that with a good period, you can move up in no time. I would ask Jesse to look at it, because I am a good example that it is possible. Once it’s done, it’s an amazing achievement, and before you know it, you’re playing Premier League football again when you thought everything was dark and tough. I urge him to consider it.”

Lingard has played most of his career in the top flight, including stints at Man United and West Ham United, but also has 47 appearances in the Championship.

With his experience in England’s second-tier division, he could be a wise buy for Wrexham, who are hoping to achieve their fourth promotion in as many seasons.
