It is, in the opinion of many, only the Champions League trophy that can stop the process of sacking Liverpool manager Arne Slot. – Tonight, Wednesday, we will get the answer because then it is ready for the first leg of Liverpool’s quarter-finals in the Champions League. Reigning Champions League champion (and Ligue 1) Paris Saint-Germain will host reigning Premier League champion Liverpool at the Parc des Princes at nine o’clock tonight.
Brian Laudrup as a guest on Goalshow on Viaplay in Denmark has no doubts and comes with a harsh verdict.

Last season he could almost walk on water – but this season has been almost one long downturn for Arne Slot at Liverpool.
During the current season, Liverpool under the Dutchman’s management have averaged 1.7 points, while losing 16 of 48 games. In comparison, the points average was 2.2 last season, when the club lost only nine out of 56 games. In addition, there has been unrest at the club, after a dispute between Arne Slot and Mohamed Salah flared up in the autumn.
The poor season creates speculation about 47-year-old Arne Slot’s future at Liverpool – and before the club’s meeting with PSG in the Champions League on Wednesday, Brian Laudrup makes a gloomy prediction for the Dutchman.
Highlights from Brian Laudrup’s career:
The Danish legend – known as one of the best attacking players of his time – won the Champions League with FC Copenhagen in the 1992/1993 season (then the Champions League), was named Denmark Player of the Year several times, and had brilliant stints at clubs such as Bayern Munich, Rangers, Chelsea and AC Milan. With Rangers, he won three league championships in a row in the 1990s and became an undisputed hero in Scotland. He played 82 caps for Denmark and scored 21 goals, and was instrumental in Denmark winning the 1992 European Football Championship – one of the greatest achievements in football history.
Brian Laudrup believes in sacking by summer at the latest
“You could say that it’s unfair to say about a man who won the championship last year, that just because things aren’t going so well now, he has to go. Liverpool are not known for sacking coaches in the middle of contracts, but the way they lose and play is resignation and without that attitude that they can always come back.
“A coach can’t tolerate that. Therefore, I think that it is only a matter of time before Arne Slot is fired. At least this summer at the latest,” says Brian Laudrup in Goalshow on Viaplay.
Preben Elkjær reacts
Preben Elkjær agrees.
“It will be decided in the final days in the Premier League and Champions League what his fate will be. I’m completely in line with Brian. What we saw against Manchester City (at the weekend) was a slackened team. They were completely gone and were completely wiped out. I could see from the players that they were emptied. So I don’t have high hopes that they can find anything in the rest of the season, and if they don’t, Arne Slot has a problem,” he says.
Arne Slot has a past as manager of AZ Alkmaar and Feyenoord in his home country. His contract with Liverpool runs until the summer of 2027.
