There are two rounds left of this year’s Eliteserie season and after a weak final spurt from reigning champion Bodø/Glimt, Brann can control a gold. Brann is now in first place with 58 points, while Bodø/Glimt have 56 points.

A couple of days ago, the news came that Brann’s success has made head coach Eirik Horneland relevant for MLS club St.Lous City. The 49-year-old, who played for Haugesund for almost his entire active career as a football player, has been head coach for Haugesund, Rosenborg, Brann and Norway G18, but never had a job outside Norway’s borders.

That can change quickly with the attention that clubs out in the big world have for Norwegian football. at least if you are to believe Aftonbladet who report that Olof Mellberg is closest to landing the MLS job.

The former national team defender has accepted the assignment and that he will shortly travel to the United States to sign his contract with the MLS club.

Mellberg has been on the “shortlist” together with Brann’s coach Eirik Horneland and another candidate. St Louis on Friday night decided to go for Mellberg.

It is also stated that Andreas Engelmark is qualified to move with the 47-year-old to the United States, which the MLS club must first approve. Engelmark is also considering other offers of its own.

Olof Mellberg comes most recently from BP and has previously coached Helsingborg and Danish Fremad Amager and was last year considered for the job as Swedish national team captain, but he eventually turned it down.
