It is common knowledge that Scott McTominay was sold to Napoli after INEOS overruled manager Erik ten Hag. Now both McTominay and Ten Hag are gone from Old Trafford, but former Premier League star Gianfranco Zola says there is still a shake of the head on the ball island over the former’s exit.
The Scotland international has been brilliant since his move to Italy in the summer and has become the favourite for manager Antonio Conte. Napoli had to shell out €30m for the Scot, Conte immediately saw the potential in McTominay and has switched to a four-man defence to make room for McTominay in central midfield.

For former Premier League star Gianfranco Zola, McTominay is clearly one of the best signings in Serie A.
-He is among the best signings this past summer. Here in England, they can’t understand how Man United could let him go. Maybe it was a decision related to Financial Fair Play, but they haven’t been able to digest it,” Zola told Corriere dello Sport.
Extension with Erik ten Hag in the summer, who was third choice for the job. So McTominay squeezed out. Two blunders Ratcliffe and the United management are said to have – to use Zola’s phrase – difficult to digest.
