Chelsea have manoeuvred their way to the most expensive player purchases the Premier League has seen, manoeuvring their way to “victory” in signing matches against rivals such as Arsenal and Liverpool. The crazy shopping rounds have cost – without providing the necessary financial gain. The Chelsea management has so far solved this with creative, financial solutions. For UEFA, it was too creative.
Earlier in the week, Chelsea reported a profit of £130 million last season. This came at a time when the operating loss was almost £170 million.

The Times reports Chelsea sold their own women’s team to the parent company for over £150 million. This amount was elegantly placed in the accounts. The English newspaper claims that Uefa does not accept this “sales income”.
Uefa allows clubs to run a deficit of £170 million over three years. Without approved “sales income” of the women’s team, Chelsea could be in trouble. The English newspaper reports this is likely to be fines, but in the extreme, Chelsea could be banned from tournaments such as the Champions League and Europa League in the future.
