Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag seems to be getting rid of the same player for two different clubs, which is quite unique.
Erik ten Hag is in the process of selling a Bayer Leverkusen player who also left Manchester United during his time as manager. The Dutchman has been out of work for a while after being sacked from Manchester United in October after performing below par.
Liverpool’s gesture towards Diogo Jota’s family: Contract will be paid in full
He was linked with several different coaching jobs, but ended up taking over Leverkusen, where he replaced successful manager Xabi Alonso. – Erik ten Hag formally took over on July 1st and already negative “vibes” have started to come out of the BayArena.
Ten Hag takes over a Leverkusen side that finished second in the Bundesliga last season, after winning the historic double the year before. However, key players such as Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong and Jonathan Tah have all left the club.
Leverkusen have been active in the transfer market and have brought in Jarell Quansah from Liverpool and Mark Flekken from Brentford.
Flekken will compete with Finnish goalkeeper Lukas Hradecky for the spot as the first goalkeeper, but his arrival seems to mean the end for colleague Matej Kovař.
Kovař was also sold by Ten Hag from United
“Coincidentally”, Matej Kovař was also sold by Ten Hag once before – when he left Manchester United for Leverkusen in 2023 for a transfer fee of £7.7 million.
The Czech goalkeeper, who joined United as a 17-year-old, never made a first-team appearance for the club and was instead loaned out to Swindon Town, Burton Albion and Sparta Prague.
After his transfer to Leverkusen, he signed a four-year contract and played 32 games over two seasons. But according to The Mirror, he is now on his way to Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven in a bid to secure regular playing time.
The transfer for the 25-year-old is said to be worth around £3.5 million.
Leverkusen’s preparations for the new season
Leverkusen start their pre-season with a match against Flamengo’s U20 team on July 18, before facing VfL Bochum, Fortuna Sittard, Pisa and Chelsea.
Ten Hag’s first official game will be in the DFB-Pokal against SG, before the Bundesliga opener against Hoffenheim.
