If
you ask a Premier League manager what he thinks about VAR, you’re guaranteed to get a grunt in response. After the introduction of video refereeing and interpretation of this, it has been very hot in the media zone when the losing manager should give his view on expulsion, scoring for the opponent – or cancelled scoring for his own club. Now the Premier League has taken a summary of VAR blunders so far in the season.
Over the course of 24 Premier League rounds, the league confirms that 4 VAR decisions were directly wrong, while 9 VAR incidents were overlooked and should have been acted upon, reports the BBC.
Here are some of the errors:
Christian Nørgaard’s red card against Everton for a stamping of Jordan Pickford, where the referee did not react before the VAR intervention.
Nikola Milenkovics cancelled goal against Southampton on January 19
Dango Outtara cancelled goal against Newcastle
The penalty Danny Ings got in a duel against Matthijs de Ligt. West Ham won over Manchester United due to the erroneous penalty. After this game, Ten Hag was sacked.
“No one here underestimates the importance of a mistake. We know that a single mistake can cost the clubs. Points and results can cost managers, their jobs and potentially players their place,” said football manager Tony Scholes, according to the BBC.
At the same time last season, the Premier League had recorded 20 VAR fouls, so we can probably take that as a positive development
