Dino Toppmöller paid the price for Eintracht Frankfurt’s weak defence, as he was sacked on Sunday before two important games that will determine whether Frankfurt avoid an early exit from the Champions League. Toppmöller had been in charge of Eintracht Frankfurt since 2023, leading the club back to the Champions League after finishing third in the Bundesliga last season. But, as we know, football is perishable, after Friday’s 3-3 against Werder Bremen and four games without a win, Toppmöller was weighed too lightly.

With 39 conceded in 17 Bundesliga games, the club management thought it was time to press the panic button. Now Erling Haaland’s former coach at Borussia Dortmund (and RB Salzburg) is linked to the job.

Marco Rose hasn’t quite found his place after leaving Red Bull Salzburg in 2019 and Gladback in 2021. The German coach has stayed in the Bundesliga, having managed both the big clubs Dortmund (1 year) and RB Leipzig (2.5 years) and RB Leipzig, but without much success. Since March 2025, Rose has been without a coaching job.

According to Bild, the Eintracht Frankfurt management has already identified Marco Rose as their preferred candidate, with the 49-year-old himself opening the door. The negotiations between the parties will be in the final phase. Rose is said to have planned to step down as coach, but is temporarily willing to make an exception. Or in other words: Make one last attempt to succeed.

Rose still has a contract with RB Leipzig, so in theory, Eintracht Frankfurt will have to pay a transfer fee to their rival.
