The prestigious Laver Cup starts this Saturday, in which Europe competes with the rest of the world for the title of the best. All this under the leadership of living tennis legends Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe. What is Laver Cup?
The prestigious Laver Cup is starting. This is a men’s team tennis tournament, which was established in 2016 on the initiative of the Swiss tennis player Roger Federer. The event is named after former Australian player Rod Laver, a two-time winner of the Classic Grand Slam – winning all four tournaments in one season. Six tennis players from the European Team and six from the World Team are taking part in the event. Everything takes place under the leadership of Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe, who are team coaches – McEnroe commands the world group, Borg leads the European formation.
The Laver Cup will be held on September 22-24. Nine singles matches and three doubles matches will be played over three days, for which one to three points can be scored. The European team will include Huber tHurkacz, Andrei Rublev, Casper Ruud, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Arthur Fils and Gael Monfils. The World team will feature Taylor Fritz, Frances Tiafoe, Tommy Paul, Felix Auger-Aliassime, Ben Shelton and Francisco Cerundolo.
