Sky Sports filmed the owner as he stepped onto the pitch at the City Ground and exchanged words with his manager.
Nuno later confirmed that the discussion was about an incident in the match where Forest were briefly left with only 10 players on the pitch, and not about any underlying tension between them.
Before speaking out, Marinakis was criticised by several pundits and fans, with Gary Neville even urging Nuno to negotiate his way out of Forest “as early as tonight”.
Marinakis has now released an official statement:
He said, in a statement posted on Instagram:
“Today is a day of celebration, because after 30 years, Nottingham Forest is guaranteed European play again – a promise I made to our supporters when we were promoted!
“With two games left in the Premier League, we have to keep believing and dreaming, until the last kick of the last game.
“We are incredibly proud and close to Nuno and the team, and we must celebrate this season’s historic achievements.
“Everyone – the coaching staff, the players, the supporters and not least myself – was frustrated with Taiwo [Awoniyi]’s injury and the medical staff’s misjudgement of his ability to continue the match.
“This is natural, it just shows the passion we feel for our club.
– Let’s all be passionate, grateful and keep dreaming!
Forest are currently in 7th place in the Premier League with 62 points.
They are just one point behind Chelsea in 5th place in the battle for Champions League qualification, where England have secured an extra place in next season’s tournament thanks to their UEFA coefficient.
Nuno’s side play away to West Ham next weekend, before finishing the season with a possible decisive game against Chelsea at the City Ground in the battle for a Champions League place.
