There will not be a return to the French club Rennes for Albert Grønbæk unless both manager Jorge Sampaoli and sporting director Frederic Massara are fired.

The Danish midfielder was sold from Bodø/Glimt in the summer for 15 million euros and now, just six months later, he is loaned to Southampton, who are on full speed down from the Premier League.

On Christmas Eve, Southampton brought in experienced manager Ivan Jurić in the hope that things would get better. But so far, that has not happened. The club still only has 6 points, which they had when the Croatian manager took over the helm.

On Southampton’s website, the Dane puts the change into words: “I’m just so excited. It’s a big club and I think the style of play suits me very well, so I’m very happy to be here. The facilities are very good and the stadium looks amazing. It’s even bigger and better when you see it in real life, so I’m really looking forward to playing there. I’m proud to be here.

“goals and assists”

Southampton state that this is a loan deal for the rest of the season. According to transfer journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the deal includes a €15 million purchase option.

Southampton are currently in last place in the Premier League. It will take a miracle for “The Saints” not to be relegated to the Championship. – So regardless of whether the 23-year-old is bought out or not, it will only be 6 months in the Premier League.

Rennes are also out on the road, with only 17 points from 18 games, they are hovering around the relegation line in Ligue 1.

“I’m a dynamic player who can be eights or tens. I can play on the wing as well, and I like to have the ball. I think the fans will get to see a player who likes to run, push, work for the team and hopefully produce goals and assists.”

The 23-year-old made his breakthrough in Bodø/Glimt after his transfer from AGF in 2022.
