It is a bit amusing to hear English football commentators pronounce Jørgen just as they have had problems with Ødegaard for a while now. The 25-year-old striker Jørgen Strand Larsen is on loan at Wolverhampton in the Premier League this season from Spanish club Celta Vigo.

Also tonight there were goals and while he climbs up the Premier League’s top scorers list, he is mentioned more and more often in the same breath as Martin Ødegaard and Erling Braut Haaland.

Before tonight’s game against Leicester, Wolverhampton manager Vitor Pereira was afraid that his players would relax now that there was no longer any danger of relegation, he called for focus and commitment: “I want to see the ambition in my players”

Wolverhampton won 3 – 0 against Leicester at home at the Molineux Stadium.

It was without a doubt Manchester United goalkeeper Matheus Cunha who was the big star for Wolverhampton, but he was not alone. – As the BBC reported after the game: “Matheus Cunha inspired Wolves to win against Leicester”

Matheus Cunha was the hero as Wolves took a clear victory over Leicester and equalled a club record from 55 years ago. The Brazilian striker scored himself and had assists for both Jørgen Strand Larsen and Rodrigo Gomes in the game that secured Wolves’ six straight wins in the Premier League for the first time since 1970.

Jørgen Strand Larsen once again showed how valuable he is to Wolverhampton when he contributed to the team’s impressive 3-0 win over Leicester.

Goalscorer in super form

Although Larsen missed a great chance from close range early in the second half, he immediately showed character by making amends in a big way. Just half a minute later, he put a perfect finish into the far corner after initiating the attack himself. This was his sixth goal in the last six games – a truly impressive statistic that underlines his important role in the team.

Wolves dominance

Matheus Cunha started the celebrations by giving Wolves the lead in the first half. Leicester had an opportunity to equalise through Jamie Vardy on a penalty, but Wolves goalkeeper José Sa showed why he is considered one of the league’s best with a great save.

At the end of the game, Rodrigo Gomes put the crown on the work with the 3-0 goal, just minutes after he came on as a substitute for the strong Larsen.

Other Norwegian achievements

In other games this weekend:

  • Sander Berge and Fulham secure an important 2-1 win over Southampton
  • Brighton delivered a dramatic turnaround against West Ham (3-2), where Carlos Baleba became the match-winner with a spectacular long-range shot in injury time

It has now been confirmed that Southampton, Leicester and Ipswich will be relegated from the Premier League. For Wolves, on the other hand, with Strand Larsen as one of the main architects, the future looks bright after a solid season under the leadership of Vitor Pereira.

The Norwegian striker has 13 goals in the Premier League this season. He has performed very well in his debut season in the English top division after his transfer from Celta Vigo last summer.

Leicester’s goal crisis continued when goalkeeper José Sa saved Jamie Vardy’s penalty in the second half. Thus, Vardy still stands at 198 goals for the club, with only four games left in his Leicester career.

Cunha, who has a £62.5m buyout clause and is expected to leave Molineux this summer with Manchester United interested, scored his 15th goal of the season. Premier League goals this season.

Wolves’ biggest challenge now, after securing their place in the Premier League earlier this month, will be to replace the Brazilian star who has been crucial to their survival.

At the moment, however, they can enjoy a routine win over Leicester, who confirmed relegation last weekend. Leicester’s season continues to slip downwards, while Wolves under Vitor Pereira have turned a walking situation into 13th place.

Van Nistelrooy’s isolated position

Leicester manager Ruud van Nistelrooy stood as an isolated figure on the sidelines, in contrast to Pereira who was hailed by the home fans after leading the team to safety.

Pereira’s first game in December was a 3-0 win over Leicester at the King Power Stadium – when Leicester were still outside the relegation zone and two points ahead of Wolves. Now they are a full 23 points behind.

With nothing at stake, it took time for Molineux to come to life, but Cunha opened the scoring when he steered in Rayan Ait-Nouri’s low cross midway through the first half.

Ait-Nouri had already been close to scoring, while Leicester offered little. Even Vardy’s farewell tour became a small footnote – especially after he missed the penalty when Sa caught him.

Strand Larsen increased the lead ten minutes into the second half, before Rodrigo Gomes put an end to the victory five minutes before the end after another assist from Cunha.

An impressive performance from Wolves, as Leicester’s difficult season continues.
