Deco didn’t spend much time talking about the rumours of a return to Barcelona for Lionel Messi.

Anderson Souza, known as Deco, appeared at Cadena SER’s Qué t’hi jugues on Wednesday and didn’t shy away from any questions — including that of a possible return of Leo Messi for one last “last dance” on loan from Inter Miami.

“I don’t think it’s possible because Leo has a contract and the idea was never considered. Leo is always Leo, and he could still offer something; He’s a great player. But it is not a topic we should discuss,” he said. “Right now, the whole context is purely speculative,” he added.

Deco is not surprised that Messi’s name is called every ten minutes at Spotify Camp Nou.

“Leo will have an impact forever. For me, Leo is the greatest player in the club’s history, along with Johan and Ronnie. It’s normal that this generation doesn’t forget him,” he noted.

The sporting director also brought up comparisons with Lamine Yamal. “These are different stages and different players. They are both ahead of others in how they perceive the game, but Leo grew up in an environment with no pressure or need to take the spotlight because it wasn’t his time yet, while Lamine has grown up in a different environment — in a Barça undergoing rebuilding — while Leo joined an already established squad with an average age of 26-27. Leo was gradually taken in,” he explained.

“Leo aroused curiosity; I went to see the B-team just to see him. His quality was impressive,” he added.
