First, 250 full-time equivalents disappeared at United last summer, last month another 200 employees were announced at the club. Then there was the canteen offer for the employees that was cut out of the budget. The cuts are supposed to be necessary, but come with an embarrassing taste when the same management spends over £20 million over the course of six months to sack a coach, buy a new one, buy a new sporting director, then sack the guy 159 days later. Now there are reports of a spending cut that finally does not affect “the man and woman on the floor”.
Two years ago, United moved its headquarters in London to the fashionable district of Kensington. Large parts of the commercial activities for Manchester United are managed from London, for the club’s partners there is considerably better access by plane, compared to getting to Manchester.
This is a cut that will not have consequences for the club’s operations, employees in Manchester or the supporters, so we guess there will be a few thousand thumbs up for this cut plan.
