Florian Wirtz was earlier this month on a trip to England. Here were two clubs on the meeting program, where talks with Pep Guardiola and Arne Slot would be especially important for the attacking midfielder “all” the big clubs could want. Two weeks later, the bid that will decide the signing battle arrives.
According to Sport Bild, it was the conversation with Guardiola that had caused doubts in Wirtz’s mind. During the conversation, Guardiola has been evasive about how long he will stay as City manager, in stark contrast to Arne Slot’s passion for Liverpool and a clear plan for the long run. The German media claims this was what decided, Florian Wirtz chooses Liverpool.

On Friday, Liverpool sent off the bid that will also persuade Bayer Leverkusen.
The Athletic reports Liverpool have sent Bayer Leverkusen a bid of a wild €130 million for Wirtz. This comes after the first Liverpool bid of €100 million was rejected.

If Leverkusen accepts the bid, this will be Liverpool’s most expensive signing ever, by a good margin. Darwin Nunez was signed in 2022 for €85 million.
