On Tuesday, Inter Milan had emptied the streets of the Inter part of the city with cheap tickets to the San Siro. 70,000 spectators were supposed to scare the gang from the north out of the Champions League. For two rounds, the Italians had made pompous techno films about their own greatness and the nutty Vikings from Norway. Shortly before midnight, Italy had to realize that no one was intimidated by the monster snake or a packed San Siro.
The Inter Milan players simply collapsed. 0-0 until halftime after masterful defending by Glimt. Then in the 58th minute, former AC Milan player Jens Petter Hauge made the first “stab” against the “monster snake”. 0-1 lead to Glimt and the Inter Milan supporters stood speechless in the stands and realized this was the night they had to drag with them for the rest of their supporter life.
