National team grief and a brutal farewell
Ramsey played a whopping 86 caps for Wales and was one of the key players as the team sensationally reached the semi-finals of Euro 2016 – one of the greatest moments of all time in Welsh football history. But now it’s over. Recently, he was scrapped for the crucial World Cup qualifier against Bosnia and Herzegovina – officially due to injuries and little playing time. The loss in that game shattered the veteran’s last dream: to end his career playing another championship.

“Not an easy decision”
“This has not been an easy decision to make. After many considerations, I have decided to retire,” Ramsey writes on Instagram.

He extends a special thank you to the Welsh national team:
“It has been a privilege to don the Welsh shirt and experience so many incredible moments. None of this would have been possible without the fantastic efforts of all the managers and all the staff who have helped me,” the former Arsenal star wrote.

Finally, the 35-year-old also thanks all his former clubs – from Arsenal and Juventus to Cardiff, Nice and Pumas.

“One of the greatest”
Aaron Ramsey is remembered as an elegant, goal-scoring and hard-working midfielder – and not least as the man who gave Arsenal hope back. Now his career is over. But the memories last.
