Bodø/Glimt have had an upward curve out in Europe since 2024. Albert Grønbæk “jumped out” halfway through this year to take the big step out into Europe. Unfortunately for the Dane, it turns out that the big step was taken at Aspmyra. Not in Ligue 1, not in the Premier League, nor in Serie A. While Bodø/Glimt broke new barriers in the Champions League, the 24-year-old was left in the Bundesliga and a new club without a debut. At Easter, Grønbæk finally returned to the match arena!

In 2024, Albert Grønbæk “narrowed” down the door to his debut on the Danish national team. After the first matches with brilliant play, Danish journalists were almost in a state of shock: “What has happened to this player?!” What had “happened” was a stay with Bodø/Glimt and Kjetil Knutsen. A year and a half later, the 24-year-old has disappeared from one bench to another on club teams, while his ticket to the Danish national team has been withdrawn.

The choice of Rennes, Southampton and Genoa has not been a sporting success for Grønbæk. It looks impressive on the CV and the money flows into the salary account, but for a young player like Grønbæk, it is the time at Glimt with plenty of playing time, titles and joy of playing that provides lasting memories – and development. At Genoa on loan (from Rennes) in the first part of the season, he played 226 minutes on the pitch. After the transfer to Hamburger SV on loan from February, the 24-year-old was still without a debut until Easter.

After his transfer to the Bundesliga, the former Glimt player has struggled with a hamstring injury, flu and lack of match fitness. At the end of March, Grønbæk reached the bench, then finally made his debut on Saturday. Hamburger SV is in 11th place in the Bundesliga, opponent Augsburg has slipped to 10th place.

Grønbæk started on the bench and saw Augsburg take the lead after 22 minutes. In the 60th minute, HSV equalized, but followed up with a penalty six minutes later. This opened the way for Albert Grønbæk’s debut in the 67th minute. Finally!

The substitution is rated by Livesporten at 6.6 on the player exchange, the HSV supporters had a positive first encounter with their Danish reinforcement.

Hamburger SV’s other Dane, Yussuf Poulsen, praises Grønbæk.

-He is a very, very talented football player who did not play much football last year. That’s why you don’t really know how good he actually is. He has settled in well with us and shows at every training session how much quality he has. Grønbæk has a direct drive forward, gets into offensive areas with very few touches, and does it with a lot of speed. He can change the rhythm of the game,” Poulson says about Grønbæk to Bild.
