When Brazilian technician Oscar was done at Chelsea after five years at Stamford Bridge with 2 Premier League titles, 1 Europa League title and League Cup title, English football enthusiasts jumped at the next choice of club. The Brazilian still had about five years to go before he turned 30, but chose to get on the long-haul flight to China. Only now, eight years later, has Oscar bought a return ticket.
The Brazilian chose Chinese league as this was the place for the astronomical earnings. This has changed in recent years, where the clubs have gone bust after bang with sponsors withdrawing and where the big stars prefer Saudi Arabian money bins.

Oscar has sat calmly in the boat and continued to “harvest”. According to Sports China, the Brazilian’s eight-year contract has yielded €240 million in salary income.
When Oscar had to accept a hefty pay cut down to a “puzzled” 3 million euros in annual salary, the 33-year-old chose to give up Chinese football.
For 240 million euros, Oscar has delivered 77 goals and 141 assists in 248 games for Shanghai Port.

Oscar knew all along what he was doing when he left the Premier League, still at the top of his career. Money, money, money, must be funny—the driving force was the guiding force.
