The chances of Liam Rosenior still leading Chelsea next season are dwindling rapidly. A recent report now points to four candidates who could take over – only one of them with Premier League experience.
Rosenior under pressure
Chelsea hired Rosenior when the club and Enzo Maresca parted ways at the turn of the year. The 41-year-old was known for Chelsea after impressing at sister club Strasbourg, which is also part of the BlueCo Group.

But after a promising start, the results have failed, and Rosenior is now under the microscope.
A crushing 8-2 aggregate defeat sent Chelsea out of the Champions League against reigning champions PSG. With just one win in their last five games, Chelsea are outside Champions League qualification in the Premier League, and the club lost both meetings in the League Cup semi-finals to Arsenal.
According to a recent update from Sky Sports reporter Sacha Tavolieri, there are people in Chelsea’s management who do not believe Rosenior will lead the team next season.
It is claimed that parts of the club have “serious concerns” that Rosenior is NOT the right man for the Chelsea project, and that the appointment earlier this year was wrong.
It is also claimed that Rosenior is now in a crucial period where his fate will be sealed.
PSK loss makes matters worse
It is important to note that this update came before Chelsea were crushed at home by PSG on Tuesday night. This means that Rosenior has had the worst possible start to his most important period.
The Daily Express has now picked up Sky Sports’ report that Rosenior is in danger of being sacked.
The newspaper lists four managers who will be more than worthy replacements if Rosenior has to go:
Cesc Fàbregas (Como), Luis Enrique (PSG), Filipe Luís (clubless) and Oliver Glasner (Crystal Palace).
The candidates
Glasner is the only one of the four with Premier League experience as a manager. He will leave Palace when his contract expires in the summer and will be remembered as the club’s greatest manager of all time after winning the FA Cup in 2025 – the only major trophy in the club’s 120-year history.
Luís last managed Brazilian side Flamengo, and in an incredible two-year period, he won EIGHT trophies, including the Copa Libertadores (South America’s answer to the Champions League). Luís is also linked to Chelsea from his short spell as a player in the 2014/15 season.
Fàbregas also played for Chelsea during his active career, and as a manager he has garnered rave reviews for the work he does at Como. Despite only being promoted to Serie A in 2024, Fàbregas’ team is in fourth place this year and is on course for Champions League qualification.
Enrique needs no further introduction after winning the quadruple with PSG last season and the treble with Barcelona during his time at Camp Nou. Enrique is considered one of the world’s best managers, but getting him out of Paris is unlikely to be easy.
