Coventry are performing well in the Championship under Lampard, who has led his team to 25 points from their first 11 games.

The Sky Blues have won seven of their 11 league games this season, scoring an impressive tally of 31 goals.

USA star Haji Wright and Ghana international Brandon Thomas-Asante have both scored eight goals in Coventry’s Championship campaign this season.

No player in the league has scored more goals than Wright and Thomas-Asante while fighting for promotion. Coventry could consider recruiting in January when the transfer window reopens to strengthen their position.

Lampard could strengthen his squad before January, after letting free agent Patrick Bamford train at Coventry. According to Mike McGrath, Bamford was spotted at the club’s training ground after he left Leeds United in the summer.

“Patrick Bamford seen at Coventry City’s training ground,” he wrote on X. “The 32-year-old striker has been a free agent after leaving Leeds United at the start of the season.”

Bamford went all of last season without scoring a goal after playing 18 games across all competitions for Leeds.

He scored eight league goals in the 2023/24 season.

Bamford spent seven seasons at Elland Road and scored 17 goals in their Premier League season in the 2020/21 term.

Bamford is a free agent after his stay at Leeds, which means he can be signed at any time.

Although Coventry have two prolific strikers at their disposal, a potential injury could derail their season and options are always a good thing.

However, it appears that the Championship side will not sign Bamford, with Coventry Live claiming that the deal is just a case of Lampard doing the 32-year-old a favour while he looks for his next club.

Bamford and Lampard were short-lived teammates at Chelsea.

The attacker joined the Stamford Bridge club as a young player in 2012. Lampard was nearing the end of his legendary time at the club when Bamford signed.

Despite being registered with Chelsea, Bamford never played a first-team game for the club as he had a number of loan spells, including Middlesbrough, Crystal Palace and Burnley.

He joined Boro on a permanent transfer in January 2017 after a successful loan spell.
