  • It’s been really cool to be part of that squad here. That’s why it’s also a bit sad to sit here and say goodbye.

Fredrikstad Football Club has confirmed that goalkeeper Jonathan Fischer (23) has been sold to the French club Metz. The transfer fee is around 3 million euros including bonuses.

Jonathan Fischer, who was logically courted by many European teams during the summer, chose FC Metz to take another step in his career, where he will wear number 1. A modern goalkeeper with excellent footwork, Jonathan Fischer is determined to put all his qualities at the service of the Metz collective.

Jonathan Fischer’s first words: “I am very happy and eager to make my debut with FC Metz. I watched some match videos and was impressed by the enthusiasm of the Metz fans. After this signing, I would like to thank the people around me today: my agents, my girlfriend, but also my family and all the coaches I have been able to work with. A big thank you also to FC Metz for the trust.”

In the agreement, FFK has also secured a future share of over 15% in the event of a resale.

Fischer, who came to Fredrikstad before the 2023 season, traveled to France on Monday after the clubs agreed. The Danish goalkeeper leaves FFK as cup champion after the triumph in 2024.

Even before Fisher’s departure, FFK had brought in Valdimar Birksøe as their new first goalkeeper.

Second record sale this summer
This is Fredrikstad’s second big player sale this summer. Earlier in July, the club set a new transfer record when Fallou Fall was sold to MLS for NOK 34 million.

With two significant sales in a short time, this shows that FFK’s player purchases and development are bearing fruit financially.
